Federal Reserve Wants to Issue Debt  – Charting Stock 12/10/08

The WSJ reports that Federal Reserve is now said to be thinking of issuing it’s own debt. The concept could include selling bills or some other form of notes. This would be the first time in history for such an action  be taken.  The mainstream media has already begun to sell the idea to the public citing that the action would give the fed more “Flexibility to stabilize the market.” No specifics as to how this would be achieved.  Why would the federal reserve need to issue debt? Why does the “Lender of last resort” need to borrow money? They have monopolistic control over the US currency and print money at will.  What would these new bonds be backed by? The full faith and credit of the United States? The federal reserve is independent of the Unites States.  Does the Federal Reserve have any constitutional authority to issue bonds? I know that’s sill to ask considering that the entire federal reserve system is unconstitutional.  The media needs to ask these questions and we must demand them answered.

Schwarzenegger Orders Unpaid Leave for State Workers  – Bloomberg 12/19/08

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today ordered all state workers to take two days of unpaid leave each month to conserve money amid a record budget deficit and a legislative impasse over how to fix it.  The furloughs will begin in February and will last through June 2010, Schwarzenegger said in an executive order. He also ordered all departments to cut 10 percent of their workforce costs, through firings if necessary… The furloughs would amount to a 10 percent pay cut, Chris Voight, executive director of the California Association of Professional Scientists, a group that represents about 3,000 scientists working for the state. The association and the Service Employees International Union announced they will sue to block the furloughs and any layoffs, which they said would violate collective-bargaining deals.
