Say It Loud: This is a World War and it must stop! – Update on the Global War of Terror

If you believe the US is a democracy… this Global War Of Terror is the ONLY voting issue.

If you believe otherwise… other action is warranted.

If you doubt that the US is at war with most of the world… you have some catching up to do.  The US now has over 700 bases in 63 countries, and a military presence in 156 (at this count) – out of 193-ish.

What are we actually going to DO to change that?  More on that topic in the near future…

Israel laying foundation for Iran War – PressTV Iran, 4/2/08

EXCERPT: “Israel has reportedly unveiled plans to prepare for missile strikes it believes will be launched by states like Iran and Syria. During the five-day preparation operation, Israel will reportedly simulate conventional and non-conventional missile strikes to test emergency response against Iran and Syria as well as the evacuation of cities. The operation is slated to begin on April 6, according to the WorldTribune.com. Although the operation seems to be an innocent attempt to improve defense capabilities, pundits are beginning to question whether the exercise may be aimed at laying the foundation for a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Analysts claim this news echoes the latest developments and points to a war on Iran as it follows a recent report that a US nuclear submarine had been deployed to the Persian Gulf. Another reason that has caused speculation that the Islamic Republic will come under attack is the sudden resignation of US Admiral William “Fox” Fallon.”

Israel sees Iran threat recede – IPSNews 4/22/08

“In the clearest indication yet that Israel now believes Iran’s nuclear aspirations will be curbed, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said that efforts being undertaken by the international community will ensure that Tehran does not acquire nuclear capability. In a series of interviews on the eve of the Passover holiday, Olmert sounded the same message: Iran will not get the bomb. “I want to tell the citizens of Israel: Iran will not have nuclear capability,” he told the daily Haaretz newspaper in one of the interviews. “The international community is making an enormous effort — in which we have a part, but which is being led by the international community — so that Iran will not attain non-conventional capability. And I believe, and also know, that the bottom line of these efforts is that Iran will not be nuclear.”

EXCERPT: “The US Department of Defense said it would begin shipping $7.2 million worth of light weapons, trucks and clothes to the Lebanese Armed Forces 30 days after the US Congress passed the request without objections, according to reports published in various Gulf newspapers on Friday. The newspapers said that US Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Eric Edelman said the equipment would enable the Lebanese military to create a special unit to combat terrorism, the dailies reported. The Department of Defense justified the request to the Bush administration by saying it counteracted Syrian and Iranian efforts to undermine stability in Lebanon through their support of Hizbullah”

Tensions Continue to Rise Between Koreas – BBC 4/3/08

North Korea has accused Seoul of sending warships into its waters, amid a growing row between the countries.

EXCERPT: “Pyongyang promised “unexpected countermeasures” should the alleged incursion continue. South Korean officials deny the claims. The latest threats come after days of sabre-rattling, the North test-firing missiles and Seoul warning it would respond to any attacks. South Korea’s leader Lee Myung-bak has accused the North of fuelling tensions. Since taking office, Mr Lee has angered Pyongyang by linking aid to progress on denuclearisation and human rights.

“Tensions between the two sides have been growing all week, and culminated on Thursday with a threat from the North to suspend all dialogue with its neighbour and close the border. The North’s KCNA news agency, the mouthpiece of the Communist regime, then accused Seoul of making a military incursion. “The South Korean military’s warmongers have sent three battleships deep into our territorial waters in the West Sea [Yellow Sea] at around 11:45 am  – 0245 GMT on April 3,” the KCNA report said. “South Korea’s military should clearly bear in mind that an unexpected countermeasure will follow if they continue to push battleships into [our waters] and raise tensions.”

UN troops ‘armed DR Congo rebels’ – BBC 4/28/08

“The UN has covered up claims that its troops in Democratic Republic of Congo gave arms to militias and smuggled gold and ivory, the BBC has learned… But an 18-month BBC investigation for Panorama has found evidence that:

– Pakistani peacekeepers in the eastern town of Mongbwalu were involved in the illegal trade in gold with the FNI militia, providing them with weapons to guard the perimeter of the mines
– Indian peacekeepers operating around the town of Goma had direct dealings with the militia responsible for the Rwandan genocide, now living in eastern DR Congo
– The Indians traded gold, bought drugs from the militias and flew a UN helicopter into the Virunga National Park, where they exchanged ammunition for ivory”
