Huckabee took a faux phone call from God in 2004, where Huckabee said God said he’d vote Bush – with video (Alternet)

EXCERPT: “At a Republican Governors Association Dinner in 2004, Huckabee took the stage and began to deliver remarks when his cell phone rang. He took the phone out of his pocket and proceeded to have a conversation with God about President Bush’s reelection:

HUCKABEE: Hello? I’m sorry. I’m right in the middle of an event. It’s who? It’s God? On the phone for me? How did he get my number? Oh, God has everybody’s number. OK? Yes, I’ll hold.

Huckabee then engaged in a 3-minute back-and-forth exchange with God, in which Huckabee asserted that God was with the Republicans and President Bush:

We’re behind [Bush], yes, sir, we sure are. Yes, sir, we know you don’t take sides in the election. But, if you did, we kind of think you’d hang in there with us, Lord, we really do.”

Huckabee Agrees: A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ (Crooks and Liars)

Huckabee held a fundraiser in Houston at the home of Dr. Steve Hotze, hard-core Christian reconstructionist – America should be ruled according to strict Biblical interpretation (Cato Institute)

Huck: “The inmates there were getting a whole lot better treatment than my prisoners in Arkansas. In fact, we left saying, ‘I hope our guys don’t see this. They’ll all want to be transferred to Guanatanmo.’ If anything, it’s too nice.” (via MParent)

Huckabee stands by statement from 90s that AIDS patients should be quarantined (USA Today)

EXCERPT: “We need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague” if the federal government was going to deal with the spread of the disease effectively.

“It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents,” … he did not explain how else isolation would be achieved. “I didn’t say we should quarantine,” he said. The idea was not to “lock people up.”  Huckabee stated his 1992 positions in an AP questionnaire in which he also called homosexuality “an aberrant, unnatural, and sinful lifestyle.”
